Goal 3- Engaging in School events  

Goal:

During Semester 7 and 8 in my training practice, I will engage in school events by helping teachers with organizing the events. I will participate in school broadcast, join the courses that happen inside the school and observe students during NAP exams.​  

 

Competency Area: 

  • This goal is linked to the first and fifth teaching competency of HCT. (Menichini, 2017).

  • The first CLO1 (commitment to profession), sub-outcome 3 (active participation). Involving in the school events shows my professional attitude with the school community.

  • Also, it is related to the fifth competency (reflect on all aspects on practice), sub-outcome 2 (Maintain regular meetings). I will have feedback from my MST or other staff about my work and I will adjust and reflect on my work for the next time.

Rationale:

  • Involving in schools event will help me to get experience by participating in the events and helping other teachers or administrative to learn new things to show my professionalism. 

  • Also, I will be aware of the latest decisions that MOE decide. When I communicate with school staff especially administrative or the principal I will be aware of the directives that comes from the MOE or sector manager. It will help me to know what they are asking for a new teacher so that when I will apply for a job I knew the rules and know where I should go to apply.

  • I will keep my own mark on the school and every one will remember me. Also, I might have a chance that the principal will ask a recommendation for me to work at her school. 

 

Implementation:

  • I will ask for a permission from the principal for joining school events and meetings. When they will offer an event I will ask them if I can join.

  • I will ask the administration if they offer any event (ex: national day) for teachers and if I can attend them.

  • I will talk to my MST if I can attend with her their meetings.

      I will take pictures and notes of the courses or meetings that I will attend.

  • People (principal, secretary and teachers).

  • Certificates of attending courses.

  • Notes from meetings.

  • Videos of activities I did. 

 

 â€‹Evaluation:

I achieved this goal in semester 8 but I didn't finished it because the school was always busy with the new policy of integrating cycle 1 to Suhaila Secondary School. Mostly of the whole semester they were organizing classes, and the school to be suitable for young students (grade 1-5).  I've collected two evidences of involving in schools events. I wanted to involve more to collect more proofs but I was also under pressure and I needed more time to spend in the school. Last semester I attended a first aid course was in the school. It was very helpful for me as a teacher to help me in the class if some students get hurt. Also, as a mother how can I stop bleeding or what to do if my child get burned. Also, I helped to observe NAP exam not only for English but for other subjects like Arabic. Las semester we went for training at the end of the year there were not enough events to participate. I participated in the flag and national day by making activities for grade 1 students to color UAE flags. In national day I helped to train grade 5 students to sing the national anthem but in English with the support of music teacher. It was a great chance to involve in these activities because I proved my abilities to be a professional teacher.

I got this certificate in my training practice in year 4 semester 1  in week 6. I attend the course with my colleague and some other teachers. We learn about "First Aid" guides. The topics were about burns and injuries. The second picture shows the first aid that we can keep it in our classrooms or our homes. The course was short only 2-3 hours.

Justification

I choose to add this evidence to show my involvement in the school and to demonstrate my implementation of my third goal. As a future primary teacher it is important for me to be prepared for any emergency that might happen in the class. Especially young kids they move a lot and they need more attention.

This figure shows the activities that I done for grade 1 students in flag day. I brought glitters of the UAE flag colors and a plain flag to color it.

Justification

I involved in the school events and activities to prove the commitment to the profession.  Also, it is important for me to be engaged in the school community to learn from them and get experience and to know the latest decisions from the MOE. (Students Teacher roles, 2013). When I join these events and discuss with teachers I will gain many and various ideas and experience because each person has different idea. They will comment on my work and teach me to improve it and by this way I will learn.
